Policy, Research & Analysis
Programs/Projects – Citywide Literacy Initiative

The Office of the State Superintendent of Education (OSSE) conducts its own research and invites or commissions local and national experts to conduct occasional research, prepare policy papers, analyses and reports. These documents inform the public, support school improvement, and stimulate public discussion and debate on educational issues. In keeping with this research agenda, the OSSE has established and maintained an Adult Literacy Council that will provide guidance and identify resources for the District Government’s literacy agenda. The adult literacy initiative is currently housed in the OSSE’s Division of Teaching and Learning.

The PRA literacy agenda includes:
  • Reporting of the Adult Literacy Council that will provide guidance and identify resources for the District Government’s literacy agenda
  • Overseeing the work groups responsible for conducting research and activities associated with the Adult Literacy Council
  • Overseeing research on best practices in professional development to support literacy programming
